It’s no secret that Instagram comments are considered gold in the world of social media. While comments play a big part in your engagement rate on Instagram, they’re much harder to get than likes. For influencers, your engagement rate is the majority your value to a brand. As a brand, Instagram comments help create an online community and help you better understand your customers.
If your Instagram engagement rate is high, it means that your audience is interested and wanting to engage with your content. Similarly, if your engagement rate is low it means that your followers are not engaging with your content. That makes your page and content much less valuable.
Now that you understand the benefit to Instagram comments let’s dive right into how you achieve that goal. In our personal experience, Instagram comments are harder to get than likes, and that becomes apparent if you look at the number of likes versus the number of comments on any post, from anyone. At the end of the day, it takes far more effort to leave an Instagram comment than it does to double tap to leave a like. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways you can encourage your audience comment on your Instagram content and help grow your engagement. Below, we’re breaking down our top 5 tips and tricks to improving your Instagram comments.
Instagram Comments: Tips For Getting The Conversation Going
Tip #1: Content So Good, It’s Impossible Not To Comment
This seems super obvious, but it’s not something that a lot of people think about anymore. We’ve seen a trend with content creators that we think stemmed from the belief that posting at least once a day is the best way to grow. Unfortunately sometimes that results in lower quality content being published. It seems that in an effort to have something to post every day, content creators have been putting less thought into what might perform well versus what might add to their content count. When creating content, be sure to take a second to reflect on whether or not YOU, yourself, would comment on that photo. Be sure to be thinking through your content and making sure it’s the best shot of that outfit, the best lighting, the best shot possible before posting. In short, post content that is too good not to comment on.
Tip #2: Comment To Get Comments In Return
The saying “you get what you give” could not be more true in this instance. And the same goes for Instagram comments. Regularly commenting on other people’s photos does result in your getting more comments on your own photos. We think that are two main reasons for this. One of which being that Instagram rewards those who engage with others on the platform. The more you’re commenting on (and liking) other people’s posts, the more likely it will be that Instagram will show your posts to others. More exposure means more opportunity to get more engagement on your photos.
The second reason is because you’ll start to build friendships with other Instagrammers. If you’re frequently commenting on content from a specific account, they’re likely to see those comments and potentially return the love. Don’t believe us? Give it a try. Find an Instagram account that you like and has a similar vibe to your own page. Make sure they have a small enough number of followers or comments on their posts to actually notice your comments and the frequency of them. Try commenting on their photos and doing so frequently. You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll start to build insta-friendships with other accounts in your comments sections!
Tip #3: Reply To People In Your Comments
Don’t underestimate the power of conversation! It’s important to actively respond to people in the comments, answer questions and make connections with your audience. It gives people more of a reason to comment on your photos. If your audiences feels like you acknowledge comments then people will be more willing to comment on your photo.
Engaging back with your followers in your comments section also just opens up the opportunity for conversation. If your followers feel like they know you on a personal and not just what your photos look like, they’ll be more willing to take the extra step to comment on your photos.
Tip #4: Join Engagement Groups and Pods
If you’re reading this article, we can only hope that you’re already an active member in our Wolf Global engagement groups on Telegram. Engagement groups are a tried and true way to get more comments on your photos. Engagement pods are available for likes and comments, and there are even niche specific groups for more targeted, relevant comments. We highly encourage you try our engagement pods if you’re looking to boost your comment numbers on your posts. As previously mentioned, it helps to guarantee comments on your posts and acts as a nice supplement to other efforts.
Tip #5: Ask Questions or Prompt Engagement in Your Caption
Another way to boost the number of comments on your posts is to give your followers and viewers a reason to comment. A great way to do that is by asking a question in your caption. This is a great way to encourage your audience to leave a comment on your content. But beyond that, it helps you better connect with your followers and makes them feel included.
Questions in your captions can be as easy asking what everyone’s plans for the weekend are. Or asking for food recommendations. Try and keep your questions related to your content or tie into your caption. If you post a photo of you at a restaurant it makes sense to ask your followers what their favorite restaurant or food is. The key here is to make it feel as organic and genuine as possible, to elicit genuine and organic responses.
